THE RESTAURANT NOTEBOOK
Choosing a restaurant POS in South Africa
Start with your service, then choose your software. A takeaway counter and a table-service restaurant need different things from a till.
Map an ordinary shift
Write down how an order enters, reaches the kitchen, changes during service and gets paid. Ask to see that exact sequence in a demonstration, including a cancelled item and an unpaid bill.
Compare the full cost
Compare software subscriptions, hardware, installation, staff training and payment-provider charges separately. Havecy software is R599 per month or R5,990 per year. Confirm any additional services before subscribing.
Check access and accountability
Give staff their own accounts. Ask who can change prices, reduce a saved order or approve a void, and whether the system records who authorised each change.
Test your own menu
Try a meal with required choices, an optional extra and a sold-out item. Confirm that the kitchen receives the same details that the customer chose.
